Weekend Project

Fixing up our house will be a never ending thing for us. There's always something.

Remember that icky patch of white rocks in front of our front window?
"

Well, we purchased 3 shrubs from Home Depot to plant there:  2 crimson pygmy barberries and a blue star juniper
One of the barberries.  The more sun they get the more red leaves they'll produce.

The entire completed project
These are all "full sun" plants and it really shows.  I kept them in the backyard for the 2 weeks or so between when we purchased them and when we planted them and the barberries really wilted away from lack of sunlight.  Now that they are in the front yard they are just flourishing.  Even since I took this picture they have grown new red leaves.
When thinking over our shrub choices with my Arizona brain, I was hesitant to get these plants because they require watering 2-3 times a week according to the tags.  I kept thinking about how often I'd have to go out and water them.  Bleh.
Then I thought about it and realized where I live!  My body may be in Missouri, but I left my brain behind - 4 states ago!  I haven't watered my tomatoes in forever and they're fine!  Some weeks we get rain that frequently anyways.  Maybe that's why I was also a little concerned with placing a "full sun" plant in a "full sun" location.  The thought actually crossed my mind that these plants might not make it because the sun might be too hard on them.  Someone smack me please.  Only in Phoenix could that actually be the case.
